OVPR Research Advisory Council (RAC)
Function
The OVPR Research Advisory Council (RAC) provides objective advice and consultation to the Vice President for Research concerning OVPR operations and strategic directions for the research enterprise at UGA.
Specific functions of the Research Advisory Council
Specific functions of the Research Advisory Council include, but are not limited to:
- Propose and/or review major new research initiatives (potentially involving faculty hiring and seed funding)
- Provide input to the OVPR Five-Year Strategic Plan
- Provide input into OVPR funding requests to GRA and the UGARF Board
- Act as nominating committee for internal research awards (Distinguished Research Professors, Creative Research Medals, Creative Research Awards)
- Advise on OVPR operations, policies, and OVPR/UGARF grants and awards programs
- Identify, study, and recommend responses to issues that inhibit research progress
Structure
The RAC members are appointed by the Vice President for Research. Each fall, five new members are appointed to three-year terms for a total membership of 15. Members are chosen for their experience and knowledge of the research enterprise and the UGA environment. Diversity of representation across the spectrum of research activities and cultures is also considered in making appointments. Affiliate members may be appointed in order to provide specific expertise or perspective.
Meeting information
Regular meetings are called and coordinated by OVPR. At or prior to the first meeting following appointment of new members, the membership will elect a co-Chair (the VPR will also serve as a co-Chair for the purposes of setting agendas and calling regular meetings). The RAC co-Chair is responsible for coordinating input and reports of the RAC. Either co-Chair of the RAC can call special meetings of the RAC; special meetings may exclude VPR and affiliate members.
